Bada + Applications
Recently there’s being some discussions about Bada Wave Handsets which topped sales of 1Million units sold in four weeks, the forum was abuzz with a discussion about it, ended up biasing towards the features of the handsets with a Nokia 5800 (yuk!
). But nonetheless, at the end of the day, it is down to:
- Improving the SDK, easy to use API to do a lot more things
- Easy to put an application up to the Samsung’s App Store.
Now, a few things have happened… there was debate flying around about the delays in the certification of the applications on the App Store, approval on an application is taking a while longer, the controls are tightening up.
Despite Bada being a new platform, there are some few teething issues with the API and limitations at the moment, so hopefully the next upcoming release will be better, possibly a new firmware in the works also at the same time to fix up the glitches and to be in sync with the new upcoming release.
One of the issues facing developers is the usage of Adverts on the applications, sure you could make a few quid out of it but on the face of it, it is not a worth-while thing to do as it would lower the value of your work by putting in adverts which the developer has absolutely no control over, and Samsung has pointed out that adverts provided they are not reflecting pornography, gambling, news bites, or advertising for a competitor, then this is where the waters get a bit muddy.
Personally, I would rather develop an application with the focus of getting the purpose and nature of the functionality to be available instead of being bombarded by adverts….who wants them!
See this thread here… meanwhile stay tuned for further news on this new platform…
